So, in reference to my other thread, I was looking online for some info on my research paper and stumbled across the Edmonton (Canada) Public Library site. On the page for "Graphic Novels and Manga for Teens" (the page google linked me to) it says this:

Marmalade Boy - Wataru Yoshizumi
A budding step-sibling romance is complicated by old flames.

Now, I know many have said this before, but Canada is probably a bit more liberal with step-sibling relationships. I mean, this book is in the teen section. Not to mention LWD is a pre-teen/teen show. So I don't think anti's have any solid argument with the whole "it's a family channel!!!" line.

Have any of you read this? I don't really read manga so I haven't, but I'm sure someone has... maybe?

Sorry that this post is a bit pointless. I fount it interesting, though!

I had never heard of it before now but I just took two minutes and found this on Wikipedia.

"...Yuu [her new stepbrother], while at first a jerk who takes every opportunity to make fun of Miki, turns out to be fun and attractive, and Miki finds herself falling for him. Little by little, she accepts her new family arrangement, and opens up to Yuu as they become friends."

Sounds a lot like another couple we know!

Canada definitely seems to be more open to letting 'scandalous' things be the norm.

On IMDB, somebody claimed that in the TeleToon cartoon "6Teen," that there is mentions of a possible step-sibling attraction.

While the show is geared toward the teenage crowd (I've heard mentions of older material), it's still shown on TeleToon. I think that says something about Canada.

^ And what would that be? That we're not as uptight about certain things and not afraid to air shows with seemingly controversial issues? Razz

I've never heard of it but it seems very Dasey-like...

6teen does hint at step-siblings romance if I recall. I watched the show long time ago. I remember there being some sort of fighting between the two teenagers about who gets what space a la 'House of Games.'

I actually own that manga! Haha, I got it at a garage sale, like, forever ago. It looked like an excellent story, but I couldn't find anymore volumes D:

I've heard of it. Known of its existence for quite awhile actually. Unfortunately, I have never seen it/read it though.

This type of storyline is actually quite overused in Japanese, Taiwanese, or Korean Animes/Mangas/Dramas. I could name off a few more off the top of my head.

Kare Kano
Devil Beside You
Cantarella
Crossroad
Heaven's Tree
One Fine Day

With as much research as I have done on this and other similar topics, I could be talking about it for hours.

I am sorry to say that I do not remember anything of the such on 6teen, but of course I didn't get to watch the show much and I somehow shipped Jenesy (Jonesy/Jen) anyway. I'm not even sure the second season even aired in America; of course it was rated Y7 in America. The show began airing on Nickelodeon's TurboNick (online) and then was moved to the channel because it was so popular on TurboNick. As far as I am aware of it hasn't been on Nickelodeon in a long time. However, TeleToon is of course a whole different story. As for the ship, I still don't really think it actually exists in the show, someone would have to show me proof (written) and evidence (screencaps and/or full episodes) considering I never had a chance to see the rest of the series. I do know that Jen had a crush on Jonesy when they were younger, yes, but that was looooooong before they became stepsiblings, and at the age they are now Jonesy is in love with Nikki. However, Jonesy has seen Jen naked at least twice. According to a sponsored fansite (http://www.6teen.ca), one of those times was when he walked in on her in the bathroom and he spent that entire episode trying to get the image of a 'naked Jen' out of his mind. Another, I'm guessing, is when she flashed all of her friends.

Wooh, Marmalade Boy, one of my favorite books, although it isn't my fav step-sib manga, that would be Crossroads - which I discovered recently and I'm very excited about that. Step-sib and sib and cousin relationships are popular storylines in manga, and is my second fav storyline of manga to read but it may soon by my top fav.
I think someone said that they started collecting it but couldn't find it anymore, if you still want to find it, let me know, I can help you there.
I noticed that about half of my collection is manga about a step-sib relationship or manga that have it in it somewhere.

^This is all so interesting and I'm glad the topic was started. It just goes to show that the step sib thing is accepted by many people in many places. Canada is awesome I think for having the open mindedness and obviously the people who create these shows/mangas/animes and etc. see no wrong at all in it. And for the people who buy and read these mangas? Watch the shows? It's awesome - it is very accepted. I think the anti's have a really pointless argument with us. Especially even now.

You know what every time I tell my friend about Dasey she references Marmalade boy. I looked at Borders for that manga but couldn't find it. guess I oughta get to a comic book store.

^ Borders has a lot but when it comes to older manga they're less likely to have it. When my sister was collecting it, all she needed was volume 4 and 8 but everytime we went Borders had every volume but those two. It was crazy but stuff like that happens all the time, thats why we just download them now.

And now an off topic statement, AHHH tornadoes!!! - sry just had to say that being stuffed in a hallway with a bunch of people isn't fun, i think it had gone to my head.
