While looking at some images of the BV 222 salvaged at Athens, there was a sequence (6 images-pretty poor quality) of a B-24, first at very close range, then further away smoking and finally a crash and splash into the sea. I had never heard of such a combat, but then, I am not particularly competent in this area. Is this a well known incident, or is it an incident involving a type other than a BV 222? If anyone has particulars, could you please post?

Best Regards,

If you have the images, why don't you post them for all to see. Might help out in the discussion.

I just returned from a week of research and during that period, scanned about 50 reels of microfilm, and several thousand pages of hardcopy documents. I simply did not have time, money, or capacity to copy every item of interest and had to do a lot of prioritizing. As noted, the quality of the images was pretty poor, I have been looking at B-24s for well over 60 years and could not discern a subtype , mark or marking. No hard copy was made and I am still downloading and cataloging digital camera images. An image might still be waiting for download of this subject, but I would not be optimistic. The U.S. National Air and Space museum reference is microfilm of captured foreign documents Reel 3475 Frame 674 ff.

Best Regards,
