Before "Misadventures in Babysitting", I think this episode was one of the only episodes that foreshadowed not only Dasey getting together, but also a possible marriage.
Now, to me, this episode in particular just stands out. I mean, so many things just happened in this episode. Let's take a look, shall we?
- Casey gets her "grade-grubber" rep and decides she wants to change, and who's the first person that pops into her mind when she decides she'd need a bit of help to shed her current reputation? That's right. Derek. Her polar opposite.
- Meanwhile, Derek realizes that he needs to smarten up or he'll fail the course, and who's the first person that comes to mind? Why, his grade-grubbing lover. I mean... step-sister.
So... when in doubt, seek out the one person you despise more than anything on the planet?
That totally makes sense! I mean, instead of going to just a really cute but smart girl that he could flirt with and study with at the same time, Derek goes straight for Casey, and instead of just deciding to tone down her grade-grubbing, like PAUL had suggested, Casey decides to base her new slacker attitude off Derek.
Right.
Moving on.
- The blue screen begging. So EPIC.
"Take me back! Please, Case! I love you!"
All that was missing from this blue screen begging was Derek standing outside her window holding a radio.
- She helped him. She didn’t have to, but she decided to do it anyways.
- When Derek tells her about how he needs a 90 in order to pass, he stops the two random guys who were ABOUT to comment, from commenting. Aww. He stuck up for her!
- Finally, we come to this. THE scene that foreshadowed EVERYTHING.
A presentation about a married couple? Derek and Casey… DRESSED UP as a MARRIED COUPLE.
Now, I can’t help but wonder why the writers did this. I mean, they could’ve just stayed up writing a long essay on the book, but instead, the writers made them go all out and dress up as Percy and Mary Shelly. Why? The presentation could’ve been about ANYTHING, but they specifically chose Mary and Percy.
I think it’s foreshadowing their future marriage, but that’s just me.
Quotes
“Sometimes I wish I could be like him… slack my way through school… not care about grades…” - Casey
“Really?” - Paul
Casey wants to be like Derek?!
“Think more Derek and less Casey.” - Casey
“No, seriously,” - Emily
I laughed. Emily didn’t think she was serious and she was. Again - when in doubt, think like your polar opposite?
Apparently that’s how things roll in LWDizzle.
This one has nothing to do with the foreshadowing or anything, but Marti was especially adorable in this episode, so I have to add this quote.
“Derek says you guys don’t know what’s funny…” - Marti
Aww. She’s just so precious, isn’t she? I never get bored of Smerek/Smarti. It’s just too cute.
So, yeah. I don’t think I elaborated on this episode as much as I did with “Misadventures in Babysitting”, but that’s all I could think of. I mean, the episode was just FILLED with Dasey, but the whole presentation with Derek and Casey dressed up as a married couple just… topped the cake for me. It’s one of those scenes that has just stuck in my mind the longest and makes me wonder if the writers are purposely trying to drop hints or if they really don’t know what they’re doing or implying.

That epsiode was just....ah...every Dasey shipper's dream. Plus who didn't love that whole blue screen scene. Those scenes are always pretty Dasey. Like the many times where Casey and Derek dance together? _________________

I loved the whole blue screen. I chose the photo for my avitar for that reason. That look he gives her is "I love you" and she gives him this amazing 'get away from me i'm not supposed to care but I do' She is smiling you can tell. Sigh..
I loved the whole dressed as Percy and Mary Shelley scene. So adorable! And the way he asks her to change the grade and she looks annoyed but really feels flattered...nah no that's not the word just he looks so endearing. Love it! _________________

Ahhh yes I loved this episode. Very Dasey filled! I love when you break it down too Miranda. The end where they're paired up like that...I love how Derek protected her from those guys saying something. Dressing up like the married couple? So great! _________________

I think you guys should also check out this post someone made from Tv.com concerning this episode...
...although in Mary Wollstonecroft-Shelley's Frankenstein that didn't seem to bother Victor Frankenstein since he married his "more than sister" Elizabeth which his parents adopted so he would have a playmate as a child. He fell in love with her, married her, and then his creation killed her. Anyone remember in "Grade-Point: Average" when Derek and Casey dressed up as Percy and Mary Shelley? May be a hint. We won't know until we see something actually happen between them.) --Neutronvortex05 at Tv.com _________________

Very interesting indeed. Seems like Dasey shippers are all over. So the writer's definately had to have caught talk about what the viewers really want to see happen at the end of the series. _________________

GAh. I can't seem to get over the fact that LWD will be coming to an end. And if Dasey doesn't happen then I'll find those writers and sick my pet monkey George on them _________________

Haha you should! Surely they're not dumb enough to NOT put Dasey in the end... _________________

The writers DO know that like 99.9999999% of LWD fans are Dasey shippers...they'd be crazy not to... _________________

YAAAAY Totally agree.
This line caught me:

When you think about a writer sitting down, and thinking of every aspect of the episode, and how it is laid out- They've got to have some sort of thought process right? Well right now I am imagining the writer of this episode sitting down and thinking of what married couple to give Casey and Derek. Everything in LwD makes me suspicious. Why they positioned Derek like that in Make No Promises. Why they chose to add the line Derek, Is Casey Your Girlfriend?
It's just not normal stuff here, folks. _________________ -Kelly<3

I couldn't agree more with that! The way the writers have them act towards each other - all of the loving gazes, the ust, etc. it just is too much for even a step brother and sister to partake in. _________________

It seems like they put in purposely, most of the stuff they portray doesn't happen in real life.
Like whose first guess when a girl is at a guy's house (whom she supposedly hates) is that they're going out. They could have partnered up for a project, or something. _________________

Sorry this is a few weeks late, but I just joined and found this post.
Last semester in my English Comp II class we had to do a presentation about a poet. We were given a list and I saw "Percy Shelley", so of course I freaked and was sort of like... if anyone tries to take this from me, they're so dead.
So anyway, I got Percy Shelley (ended up doing a over-nighter thing and getting an A much like in the episode), but found out that there are a lot of other connections to the show (at least I think so) besides the Frankenstein connection.
First of all, Percy loved writing about sibling relationships. Whether they were half, step, full-blooded, or adoptive... it said that he liked writing about the challenge and the "forbidden" love in those relationships.
I think that is mainly due to the fact that his two wives, Mary and the one before her were not his ultimate true loves. Originally, he fell in love with his cousin. And they wanted to get married, but her parents did not approve and felt that Percy would corrupt her (he was apparently quite the bad boy from what I've read. he liked his alcohol, pranks, and betting... uh, sounding familiar yet). Anyway, they thought that he would corrupt her and sent the girl away.
Percy was devastated and (less than, if I remember correctly) a year later he married his sister's best friend who had always liked him. To make a long story short, that girl died after having his child and the baby died not long after the fact. And Percy was left alone again...
But in the end he found Mary... and they fell in love. I think that there was a part in my notes that says that he saw a lot of his cousin in her or something. I'll have to find my notes again... I had about three sets that were 30+ pages each.
Anyway, I just realized that I typed up an exceedlingly long ramble about Percy Shelley and I feel stupid. So I think I'll go work on the next chapter of my fanfic now. haha. |
