hey lee, i just purchased an early 80's fender concert amp, with the same exact mods as you have listed for it. single input, reverb on the left side, and the 6 position tone mid selector switch. not to mention a 3 prong outlet plug was added as well. i bought it from coyote rehearsal/recording studios in brooklyn for $500 (the place is closing, they're selling everything! anyone in brooklyn should check out what they got). the owner told me it spent much of it's life in the closet, and based on the condition, i dont disagree with him. i imagine i got a good deal on this amp. any special tricks or secrets with this mod? i didnt get any real info on it and really dont know much about the concert series amps.

also i just noted that it's got the original fender speaker. perhaps replacing it with a jensen c12n would make a difference in tone or is there a "perfect" speaker for this amp? and i also noticed the first 12at7 (right next to the 6l6gc's) was replaced with a 7025.

bottom line, i also have this running into an avatar 2x12 celestion G12H30 closed back 60w cabinet, and the rig rips on 2, even better on 4.

That definitely sounds like one of my amps,

On Speakers it depends on whet you want the amp to do, For a wide us I would suggest a EV 12L, some of the concerts came stock with them.

If it has the original Fender Speaker, I would definitely toss that, that speaker is very flat sounding.

The Jenson's sound great for Blues and rounder edges on the notes, The new Eminence Red Coats are cool if you like the Celestion sound with a tighter bottom.

Celestion 70 sounds good in the concert, or a Vintage 30, the Vintage 30 really handles 70 watts.
I would use the EV12L or the Vintage 30 if I was going to use the amp in a rock environment.

A word on the New Celestion Vintage 30's, Only buy the British Vintage 30's not the Chinese versions which are a lot cheaper, they are just horrible and nothing like the original.

It is hard because they don't want you to know, what I have found is the Chinese Vinatge 30's are the same price as the old Vinatge 30's, about $130.00 and the real vintage 30's are almost double the price.

thanks for the info, it is definitely helping me out.. i tried a jensen c12n in it, not happy with the tone in the concert (though i love the sound of it in my hot rod deluxe) - too much high end, not enough lows for me... so i'm gonna take your advice and go for the ev 12l. compared to the other speakers you mentioned, it looks like those have the most bottom end of any of them. i noticed they're made at 200w (the older ones - i can get a used one on ebay reasonably priced) and the new ones - zakk wylde model are 300w. there's also a delta pro 12a out there that handles 400w. you think it's probably best that i get one of the originals? seems like thats the way to go. i definitely want a LOT of bottom end and i think the low 200w power is probably ideal for me.
