I've got money to burn, and I'm looking for new tubes for the VL-1002. I have so far replaced 2 of the original chinese 12ax7's with a 12at7 (for the reverb) and a Sovtek 12ax7wxt. I need:
1) Advise on what tubes to get. I'm thinking JJ 12ax7s's...
2) Info on what tubes does what. Very specific. A little drawing would be nice.
3) Any recommended sources for tubes?
Thx

If you have the money tou miught want to look into some old mullard or amperex bugle boys. i have picked these up on ebay from $25 to $40 each. Just check thier feedback and steer torwards a seller that deal alot in tubes. i never had a problem on ebay yet w/ tubes but i always hear t people trying to scare you away from there so you will buy the same tube from them for $100+,
put these in the V1 and V2 position, V1 should be directly behind the input jack, good luck |

Got a handfull of JJ's. So... Got a JJ in V1 (for sweetness) the WXT in V2 (for gain), V3 and V4 are JJ's, the 12at7 for the reverb and a balanced JJ in the phase inverter. The mixer is one of the original "Audio Classics", as one of the JJ's I got was microfonic.
Overall impression: The JJ's are a little short in the gain department (should have gotten a couple of hi-gains), but man, they sound good.
