Hi Everyone.....
May I say to our host ,Bryan, that this is a very original site and a great forum which, am sure, will be enjoyed by all aircraft enthusiasts. Flying Boats were quite wonderful but by the time I was kiking my age of awareness they were history( at least for the big jobs!!). Amazing to see these beautiful planes land and take off in the water but I guess it was a "scary" experience at best as a passenger and a great "uplifting" adventure for the pilots......I flew a lot with my old Piper Cherokee over water, but with the three wheel fixed landing gear I had much respect for it and kept my distance. I also have been making "wood" scale models for over 50 years and am presently making a "strange" SM-99 (plans found here). I will be pasting some pics later on. I the mean time I salute you all from Panama and here are some pics of a tiny 1:100 scale Italian CANT Z-501 used as a search and rescue aircraft in the Mediterranean during WW2. Their story is of great men saving many pilots both Italians and British after the terrible sea battles in those waters......
