I've been wondering about this for a while now, but I think there might be a chance of that happening this year.
(Note: They WERE supposed to participate last year, but problems arose, and they weren't able to attend.)

Disney's kid 'Games': It's a big World after all

Monique Coleman and Jason Earles went for a spin during hamster ball bowling at last year's 'Disney Channel Games.'
Monique Coleman and Jason Earles went for a spin during hamster ball bowling at last year's 'Disney Channel Games.'
Call it "Battle of the Network Kid Stars."
In a couple of weeks, Disney Channel officials will bring the stars of shows it airs around the globe to Walt Disney World in Orlando for the "2008 Disney Channel Games."
For about a week, performers will mingle, compete in offbeat athletic events, meet fans and put on concerts, all of which will be taped for programming to air this summer.
"What's cool is kids get to see our talent in a different way," said Adam Sanderson, senior vice president of brand marketing for Disney. "They know them as characters on TV. They know them from the celebrity factor. But they don't get to see them out there in a T-shirt and shorts, getting dirty, getting sweaty and just being kids."
In addition to stars from the U.S., big names from Spain, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, India, Mexico, Brazil, Australia and elsewhere will be on hand.
"This is an ambitious project for us," said Sanderson.
"We sort of created this as a global idea, so that all Disney Channels could participate in various ways. The scope of it is very large."
Disney crews will shoot footage 10 hours a day. The cast and crew numbers 200 and there are eight teachers for on-location schooling and four translators.
"I can't think of another project where we have the majority of our talent together at one time," Sanderson said. "They get to spent time with each other. The U.S. kids get to meet kids from all over the world. There's a real cultural sharing that happens between our talent. ... At the end of the day, they're everyday 'tweens and teens."
The games are much like the old "Battle of the Network Stars" shows, in which the talent from various series would battle it out on a field. In Disney's version, the players are from the same network and the games have a twist.
For instance, one event last year put the stars in huge inflatable spheres for a "hamster ball race."
"This becomes programming for us for the entire summer," Sanderson said. "We're doing a couple of half-hour specials, and doing some short-form [programs]. It becomes something fun for our audience."
Production on the games takes place April 27-May 3. Work on this year's games began right after last year's events. The paperwork just to get the international youths here started last November.
"One thing we're really focused on is that this is an opportunity for our viewers to see people going out and being active," Sanderson said, noting the rise of obesity among children. "Here, they see kids going out and having fun."

Yay! They said Canada, which I can only assume is for Mike and Ashley, since Naturally Sadie don't air anymore. But there is a chance they'll start airing The Latest Buzz and invite those actors instead. Which is why I am scared that when they said, "they're everyday 'tweens and teens." Because let's face it, Mike and Ash are not really Teens anymore. So I am a little bit scared of that fact.
I really really hope they get invited and not have Visa problems. Because I probably won't watch the DC games otherwise... _________________ "... I know that love is unconditional. On the age thing, if I'm not mistaken Ashley Tisdale was on the Disney Games last year, and she hasn't been a teen for a couple of years now. (She's turning 23 this year, according to IMDB)..
In fact, she's more than a year older than Ashley Leggat, and 2 years older than Michael Seater.. _________________ http://www.fanfiction.net/~kinvalar

Many of the competitors last year were young adults ...
Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Jason Earles, Monique Coleman (who's in her late 20s!), Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan, Kiely Williams, Brandon Baker, Corbin Bleu ...
So just disregard the "teen" title.
I just hope that Mike and Ashley get their work visas in on time. That's what screwed them last time ... (and it made me mad when Disney completely disregarded the fact that two of the teams were a member short). _________________

You don't need a Visa anymore to get into the US from Canada anymore, if I'm correct. My dad works in California alot and I know he doesn't apply for Visas.
I would be beyond excited if Mike and Ashley end up on the DC games. It's the least they can do for LWD. _________________

OMG That would be so excellent! It was really disappointing they weren't there last year and I can't believe that Disney completely disreguarded it as Snoopy said. I wouldn't worry about the teen comment either. Oh I would totally watch DC games this year if Mike and Ashley were there!! _________________

^I'd probably watch it just for them! I wonder though - they'll be on different teams won't they? Hmm this could be interesting! _________________

I was looking for updates on this yesterday. There's squat for info on the official site, but apparently a Jonas Brothers fansite has a team listing with Ash and Mike on it. I'm not sure how credible it is. _________________ Theresa

I figure we'll learn something next week when the games begin.
I just wish Mike and Ashley would confirm or deny something on their sites. Although, their lengthy disappearance this week makes me curious. _________________

dc games! yay!
He said he was going to be pretty much alone...so I wonder if Ashley's going.
you should read it. It's funny. |

^ Thank you SO much for posting that! I'm all excited now!
I wonder why Ashley wasn't mentioned. She was rumored as well ... and of course, it would make the games even better with them both involved!
But I love his commentary. It's so random and just fun! _________________

I'm very glad he's going, but I'm kinda scared for him, I mean, I don't think he knows anyone else besides Ash from DC...
Hopefully Ash will go and we'll get some cute mashley moments...
Anyways, for some reason, Mike and Ash don't seem as close now, I don't know how to pinpoint it, but there's just a vibe.
Anyone else feel like that? _________________ "... I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable and strangely easy to mistake for loathing."

Just checked his myspace and immediately thought of coming here to discuss. That's awesome that he's able to go, I'll actually watch it this year now.
I sense them not being as close as they use to be either but I guess that happens when you're not spending almost everyday together anymore.
I hope Ashley goes, the way Mike put it, it seems like she's not. I wish we knew more about what was going on with her, she's been mysterious lately. _________________

When ever and actor/actress is being quiet/suspicous, it usually means they're working on another production...at least in my mind...
Maybe she's (Ash's) shooting something else...we dont know...
Also, I'm SOOO happy Mikes going! This is really exciting! I knew Disney was treating LWD a lot better. I think us Dasey fans really brought up those ratings or they wouldn't have made LWD part of their "night of premiers" you know? I'm just really happy Disney's finally seeing the light! Let's hope I'm not speaking too soon and jinking it...altho I'm known for doing that (*immediatly covers hand over mouth*:|) _________________

I sense it too. I always sensed that they weren't AS close as they appear in their podcasts, but still ... there seems to be more distance than before.
Ashley WAS working on "The Jerk Theory" a while back. (IMDB says it is in post-production) But it was a small role. I just wonder what else could be int he works for her. _________________
