Well, why didn't Derek just use the tools he had to take the doorknob off--or even more effectively--take the <i>door</i> itself off?

That's my 2 cents.

Plus, it is hilarious when Derek's messing around with the tools--it's so obvious he doesn't know what half of the instruments are for.

Yeah, Derek could've used the tools to free them, but then he would've have gotten to have a very HOT shampoo fighty with Casey. I'm pretty sure when Casey walked in and slammed the door he was thinking, "YES! We're stuck in here together!!!"
