Talk about a random find! I found a short interview with Mike on tvhits.co.uk, and it includes a Season 4 promo picture of Mike!
Life With Derek's Derek We talk to the king of annoying brothers
Tell us about the show.
Life with Derek is like The Brady Bunch gone wrong. We’re two families mashed into one. It’s constantly madness, but that’s a given, with two alpha teenagers in the house.
What character do you play in Life with Derek?
I play Derek Venturi. He’s the oldest on his side of the family. He rules the school hallways and the living room couch. Needless to say he’s not excited about the McDonalds…the girls, moving into his house.
Are you anything like your character in the show?
I really like Derek’s confidence – he believes in himself and really goes after what he wants. I think I’m like that, but Derek takes a different path to that goal than I do.
What are the best and worst things about being a young actor?
Being a young actor has always been amazing. I’ve met so many great people and learnt so much along the way. But there is definitely a lot of pressure. Being the star of a show, having schoolwork to do and still dealing with all the drama that comes with being a teenager can be tough at times.
How did you get into acting in the first place?
There was an open casting call for the part of Chip in Beauty and the Beast on stage. You had to fit in a tea trolley. I was too big, but they recommended me to my agency and here I am.
How do you fit in acting around school work?
It was definitely a challenge to be both an actor and a student. I missed half of every school year and it's impossible not to fall a little behind when you’re away, so you have to play a lot of catch-up. I could have done the home-school thing, but I didn’t want to miss out on a regular high school experience altogether.
Have you got any tips for budding young thespians reading this now?
Work, work, work. Everyone has to pay their dues.
Do you get nervous and if so, how do you handle it?
No, I have too much fun to get nervous on set.
Have you ever Googled yourself?
Yep. It’s funny to see what people say about you sometimes. But sometimes it's not so funny.
What have your friends been like about you being on the show?
My friends are friends with me, not “the star of Life with Derek.” They love it, and they’re happy for me, but they don’t treat me any differently.
Finally, what's your favourite pop song on the radio right now?
DVNO - Justice
