Yep.
I'm not even kidding. I'm probably one of the only kids in my class who, not only LOVED the book (so much so that I actually went out and BOUGHT a copy for myself) but also became intrigued by the idea (with help from fanfiction) of Ralph and Jack possibly getting together.
I know it's weird, but... come on. They're two boys who've probably just hit puberty, and they're stranded on an island with no one BUT boys around, and not only that, but there's also the "opposites attract" factor. Ralph is more civilized and will stop at nothing to get rescued, wheras Jack - who starts out being civilized and bound to society- gradually becomes more and more savage throughout the book until eventually, he no longer cares about getting rescued and just wants to hunt.
Besides, in both movies (the 1963 original, which I prefer) and the 1990 remake, the actors who play Jack and Ralph have such chemistry, and it's just so wonderful to watch. Personally, though, as I said before... I like the original better. Despite the fact that it's black and white, and the special effects are... amusing, to say the least... it's true to the book, and I adored Tom Chapin's portrayal of Jack in it.
Anyways, that's all I've got to say about this pairing. I'll post some slashy videos I found on YouTube later.
So... what do you guys think? For those of you who've read the book (or, at the very least, seen the movie), I mean?

I was actually considering writing about the homosexual aspect of it for my required essay, but when I mentioned it in class before I got really weird looks, so I thought better.

I couldn't really see why my class found it weird that I mentioned the obvious gay-ness in the book. I was just like "It's a bunch of prepubescent boys. On an island. Alone. With one going on an insane power trip. How are you not seeing what I'm seeing?"
Actually, my friend was okay. She was like "I have a strong sense that they will jump each other sometime soon." and I replied "I doubt it." and she said "Yeah. Probably not. I just wanted to make you feel better. I get where you're coming from, though." Haha.
Oh, and once, I was in this store with her, and I saw the black and white version on DVD and I was like "I don't know whether I should get this. It's almost like I'm perving on little boys or something. From the 60s." and she was like "Go for it!" and I went "Stop encouraging me!"

I've managed to successfully corrupt one of my friends into shipping Ralph/Jack - especially after showing her that clip.
The others... when I mentioned it to them... were more or less a little scarred. I have just the one, and I had to convert her myself [although, I converted her pretty easily, so I think she always thought about it deep down ] Ah well. Yeah. I mean, they had to have gotten older... they were probably on the island for about a year - at the least - because I highly doubt they'd all go savage within a week or even a few months.

Whoa NEVER would have thought about that pairing in a million years! Lol, I read that book when I was in 9th grade...it seems so long ago even though it was only a few years. The only part I remember from the book is when one of the boys was holding up the dead guy with the parachute or something. Anyway, we had to make up a fake 13th chapter to the story (and I got a B+ on it )
anywho, back on topic, hmm...I'll have to think about this pairing (meaning re-read the book) and I've never seen either movie.
