I don't cry either. I might wince from the pain (sometimes a little skin is peeled with the nail when it comes off...ouch), but other than that I don't freak out over it.

That doesnt take into account his character, he's very direct with other pretty girls. It makes no sense NOT to want to be friends cause he wants to be more, he SAYS that girls and guys CANT be friends WITHOUT becoming more then friends, thus if he wants them to, he would be more friendly. He's afraid to let that possibility happen(even if deep down hes already starting to feel something anyways). Thats what my whole post was about.

This is where the line in "just friends" comes into play. Derek says that girls and guys can't be friends. It just can't happen without something getting in the way....
is it not further proof then that Derek is the way he is to Casey(partially if not majorly) because he is in fact AFRAID to be her friend? Believing it will undoubtedly lead to other kinds of feelings. I mean, cummon, the character of Derek, the way he is written, must have at least had it cross his mind(Daseyness) and probably freaked right the heck out. Thus, his constant DENIAL of Casey's blatently good looks. Nay, phenomenal looks.
Take into account that he doesnt treat Lizzie the way he treats Casey, not even edwin, and certainly not marti.

Good points. And I'm sure this has been mentioned already but I'll say it anyway, if you've got Derek and Casey and Kendra and Noel on a double date and Kendra and Noel are supposed to be couple A, who does that make couple B? Yeah, that's what I thought. Way to NOT push Dasey, you crazy PTBs. ;) |

I've never cried in front of my friends (except when I was little ^^). But that's more bcz it's difficult for me sometimes to show my feelings.
I think girls and boys can be just friends. They can see eachother as siblings.
Sure, I already thought one of my (guy) friends was attractive but that doesn't mean... ^^ And I know some guys who I'm just friends with. They can be cool to hang out with.

He doesn't want to be friends with Casey because if they are friends then he will have to tell her anything even his crush on her and that he is in love with her. So Derek will have to face his feelings but he doesn't want to do that because he is stubborn

I dunno, I mean obviously it's very possible to be just friends with someone of the opposite sex; to say otherwise is a bit arrogant I think. But more often then not it does seem to lead to complications/awkwardness. Before I moved two years ago, the majority of my friends were guys it was just me and one other girl. We were all like this big group, y'know? One of the guys revealed that he had feelings for me and he was really sweet so I decided to give him a shot. This made all my other friends mad as it turned out some of them liked me too. Most of them liked the other girl, but yeah... It just messed up a bunch of our friendships and made me feel like Yoko, splitting up the band. Lol. It just turns into a big mess. Of course this isn't to say it's how it happens every time, but I've seen that stuff happen to a lot of people; guys and girls. Not good.
I've had that same thought, though (referring to the original post). Derek treats Casey they way he does because he's afraid that if he were to be nice, if they were to get along and God forbid become friends, he'd get caught up in the moment and jump her. Or she'd realize that he's totally in love with her. He just figures it's best to keep his distance while passively developing an unspoken friendship. Like he says, be mean, keep 'em keen.

Guys and girls can be just friends. In the episode it shows Derek proving his point but maybe he forgets that he is friends with Emily and there are no more feelings in the way of that. But usually there are complications at one point in the friendship. ex: everyone thought I liked one of my guy friends in grade 7. It was horrible. He didn't like me (in that way), I didn't like him (in that way), and he knew it, but people bugged me about it for a long time. So, point being, that even if there aren't feelings on either side friendships can be tested. (this is a little off-topic).
But in Derek's case, most of his friendships with girls have had feelings on at least one side. First emily, and then Sally. He even avoids Kendra and they said that they would remain friends after they broke up.
