Dear Lee, recently purchased xls-1000 combo on ebay. Just wanted to let you know this is a great amp as I own one. It doesn't sound as if the tubes are going out but more like the heater connectors are failing (its the connector that supplies power to the heater element in the tube).....That has to be the only downfall I can find on this amp. Other than that Something is not working properly - the sound cuts out and is very weak. Amateur diagnosis I have gotten was either it needs to be re-tubed or it has a short in the wiring. Or both. other than that I will be very happy with it! What tubes do you recommed for this amp? I kind of like that JTM-45 AC/DC sound. Groove tubes and Mesa/Boogie JJ's STR seem to have the best rep.
Also If I shipped to you in Austin, Tx would you look at it.? Probably too expensive and logistically. Oh well. Thanks

Hi Guy

The only thing that has ever failed on the XLS series is the Heater connector, it is a plastic (Yellow) Molex connector on the Main board.
It supplies the Heater Voltage to the output tubes.

I have a free video showing how to repair it at:
http://leejackson.com/MasterSeries/Free_Stuff.html

The XLS-1000 is the same amp as the XLSC-1000.

If you were going to send it in, I would ake the head out of the cabinet, then it will only cost about $28.00 each way Fedex Ground.
