The hype about this amp is true. Just recently purchased one , used . OMG this thing is loud and sounds fantastic !!! And is so very versatile with its' 3 seperate channels. I want to upgrade the power tubes to original Tung-Sol 6550's (which I just got) also I want to experiment with some different pre amp tubes (it came with generic chinese tubes). I have used, but good, Mullards,Amperex,Telefunken,Tungsram,RCA,Syl., GE and a few others. Any tube placement recommendations for hard rock music ? (I know this can be very subjective). But my main question , What is the order of the pre amps V1-V6 . Which one is the phase inverter, tone stack, reverb etc.. ? Thanks for any help

Hello
On the VL-503 starting from V1 is for Channel one. V2 is for Channel Two and V3 V4 is for Channel three, V6 is the phase inverter.
The Reverb Circuit is solidstate using an IC for drive and return.
If the Tubes are original, they are not generic Chinese, They are chinese, and they were selected for us buy the factory.
Don't discount these tubes, they have a great gain and High end.
Definitely experiment with different tubes, I love the old NOS stuff, just make sure they are too dark sounding, That is why I have been using the Electroharmonix 12ax7EH more and more, They to have good gain and are bright.
On the outputs I originally designed the amps with the GE6650A's, they are over a 100.00 each now.
The only other 6550 I like Besides the NOS stuff is the Svetlana 6550.
When you set the bias, remember to not have a guitar plugged in while your setting the controls on the back.
Let the amp be on for at least 15 minutes before changing any settings.
Also note that when you do play the lights will flicker from green to red, that is normal.
I wanted to get your opinion on the Valve Art 6550's. They are supposed to be hand picked current production Shuguang and a clone of the old GE's.
Also when you said Svetlana are you talking the new sensor ones or the SED's
