Thank you Penfold - being given the nod for #15 was especially satisfying because there were some pretty remarkable offerings in there, even though BUTTERCUP isn't particularly clue-friendly.

On we go, then, and your distasteful clue musings are invited for:

WEATHERGIRL

This looked like a walk in the cake after 'Buttercup', but I'm finding that 'girl' at the end a bit of a nuisance.

She lets us know when it'll be wet after we play with real girth (11)

WE + REAL GIRTH*

Hmm, back to the drawing board I think.

She'll tell you when it's going to come down her leg - wait and run around (11)

Ulrika once would start to gobble her soldier before a game (11)

W + EAT + HER + GI + RL = 'Ulrika once'

We hear whether she anticipates getting hot and wet! (11)

What is the deal with exclamation marks at the end. Only used on &lit, or whenever the setter feels like it?

TV shows her slot - fuck her raw and leg it (11)

The old 'fuck' = anagrind ruse: HER RAW & LEG IT.

That said, I like this one a lot!

The exclamation mark has a handful of purposes:
1) It can signify that the word it follows (or, sometimes, any number of words) is doing double duty. In The Times, however, words doing double duty are often seen as a technical gaffe which not even an exclamation mark can rescue.
2) It can simply mean there's something unusual going on in the clue. From the cryptic archives comes the ancient example: Salt! (6) The answer is SEASON and the exclamation mark is meant to warn us - SEASON can also be SEA SON and, arguably, a sailor (salt) is a "son of the sea".
3) There are instances where it's used in an &lit clue, the setter basically saying "Hey look - this is an &lit clue". I personally dislike it being used this way.
4) In cheap weekly freesheets it means "I'm a useless crossword compiler and this is my laughable attempt at a cryptic clue".

Love 'em really.

Typical female presenter: combine rear with leg (11)

and not so 'blue' but seems appropriate

She looks good on TV, perhaps alter her wig (11)

Oh, been away for a few days and I find that Boaz did a very similar clue to the one I was going to post. Great minds and all that... So I've just come up this one:

Met woman with wet hair - gel mixed with a bit of ejaculate (11)

Anagram of WET,HAIR,GEL,E

Shortly after setting this one I realised that the winning clue was likely to exploit "met" - yes, it's been seen before, but so have many clever def devices and it's great to see them remembered in this way. Lurking in the background, I'd scribbled:

Met female with large crack full of surgical soap (11)
WITHLARGE* around E.R.

It creates an amusingly filthy idea, but foggyweb has gone one better with:

Met woman with wet hair - gel mixed with a bit of ejaculate (11)

Absolutely top drawer, as anyone who watched the film There's Something About Mary will appreciate. This isn't just a clear winner - it's an example of truly stunning clue-writing, absolutely wonderful.

Well done foggyweb, and over to you for our next challenge.
