I've owned a VL-503 combo, a VL-502 and a VL-501. They are all great amps, but the 501 sounds the best to my ears. Perhaps it's because there are fewer knobs to adjust and screw up the tone. Or maybe the signal path is "truer". Who knows?

Anyway, it's the right amp for me!
