I have a VL-1002 $600 +shipping. New tubes (EL34s) includes the Key & AFP-2 Footswitch. I am in Louisiana. email me if interested. It just can't get the high gain sound of an Ampeg VH-140C (which I have 3 of).

Hmm,, I got a Vl-502,,,I get all kinds of gain out of both the clean channel and the high gain channel,,,,Channel 1 with the pre set on 10 gets a Marshall Blues Breaker type of sound,,,Channel 2 ,,pre on 8 is over the top sizzle,,go higher for more compression,,,,

I have no shortage of gain on my 502 either, unless you're looking for 5150ish supersaturated squishy gain, or...solid state trebbly gain. The Master knob usually needs to be at least around 4 to really get the full growl.
