Boaz has offered me some helpful tips on getting the technical aspects of clueing right. He suggests that I would lose some marks for using "with adultery the end." to be ERY rather than just Y. So with due credit to Boaz, here is a second attempt:

Any advice from those in the know about whether the first attempt would be thrown out by the editors, or whether the second approach is preferable anyway, would be gratefully received.

That's weird. I posted a comment here yesterday afternoon, and it seems to have disappeared. Not sure whether it was deleted for not being blue enough...

That's odd foggy - it was here last time I looked as well, no idea how it got deleted. I copied & pasted everything into a Word doc (easier to read through offerings that way) but I can't have deleted yours in the process, not least because there's a confirmation screen to go through before deleting. Oh well.

On we go the voting and, as expected, SLIPPERY attracted some very clever clueing. My top three, starting from the nether part, goes a little something like this:

Combining three very well executed wordplay devices and a hugely rude picture, this clue shows superb technique. "Back-to-front labia", though, is slightly too surreal (funny though) and I'm not 100% on wet = slippery. Great offering nonetheless.

Even better, and the "dangerously wet" bit (although not spot on) gets closer to the slippery def. I love the imagery of this and the wordplay construction is faultless.

Unexpected choice? My reasoning is that it nudges into naughtiness while remaining quite subtle - even mysterious (has one what?). It's the kind of clue - crafted with excellent technique - that draws you in to wanting to find out the answer; will it be blatantly rude or deceptively innocuous?
