Seriously, I made a post about Derek's character development and I looked back, just at seasons 3 and 4 to see which episodes he helped Casey out in and I found like six examples, just from season 3! There's Grade A Cheater, Make No Prom-ises, Home Movies, Summer School Blues, Don't Take a Tip From Me, and A Very Derekus Christmas.

He professes to be annoyed by Casey and not want anything to do with her, yet look how much he helps her out!

I noticed Derek does that a lot and it seems as if in every episode Casey just makes a huge impact on him each day of his life because she brings out the best in him and always tries to get him to be more open about his feelings and think differently towards something or someone. Derek does care about Casey deep down in his heart and he shows that with his actions. How do you think all of a sudden he became a different person? well that is simple, Casey changed him for the better and she knows there is a different side of him in which no one has ever seen before. Just like Edwin said in Crushing The Coach "You are showing compassion for Casey" I think he is turning out to be this way because he actually started spending more time with Casey and in a way he does listen to what she tells him.

I totally agree and If siblings (step or not) Don't like eachother they don't talk to the them when there at school which Derek and Casey do
