I bought my VL1002 a little over a year ago. I sent an email to Lee about tubes and he promptly replied about EH 12AX7's and JJ EL-34s. I bought all new tubes. The clean channel is loud and sounds great with a MT-2 in front or a line out from my Ampeg VH-140C.
My problems are with Channel 2. No matter what I do, I cannot get killer distortion. It breaks up, but sounds really bad. Real flat sounding. When you push the 2 gains into the purple it gets really squashed and sounds even worse. The volume of the Channel 2 is also much lower than channel 1 on similar master volume settings. I have swapped out pre-amp tubes multiple times and no help. Any ideas?
Also, like the other guy mentioned - my red LED is really dim compared to the green on my AFP-2. When I use it on my VH-140C it is bright. Not sure what gives?
When I listen to channel 2, I see no way to get a metal sound out of it without using a modern pedal.
