Chapter 1
Casey's POV
Life's full of so many twists and turns. I've had to deal with a few myself. My mom and dad getting a divorce. Leaving Toronto to move in with my mom's new husband in London. Getting 2 new step-brothers and a step-sister. Having one of those step-brothers turn out to be the spawn of Satan. Yeah. I dealt with those one by one, but this just turned my world upside down. I was back in Toronto, but not where I used to live. Across town from where I used to live actually.
We got the news about 3 weeks ago. George got offered an amazing job in Toronto and he accepted it. Marti was ecstatic. Edwin and Lizzie were okay. Derek was angry, and I was upset. I JUST made cheer squad and I started to make lots of friends. A lot of those friends were also friends of Derek's. We ran in the same crowd lately. So we packed up and shipped everything out. I just got settled in my room, which was right next to Derek's again, a few days ago. Now here I am, senior year, standing at my locker at Degrassi Community School. The kids here all knew each other. They all grew up together. I felt like an outsider.
I closed my locker and looked around the school. It was huge and VERY full. It was grades 9-12. Edwin and Lizzie were in the school somehwere. I sighed as the lock clicked in place. I looked at my schedule. I had no clue where anything was. I turned to my right to see a red haired girl pulling a book out of here locker. Her hair went down a little past her shoulders. She wore skinny jeans, flats, and a Panic At The Disco tee. She looks cool. And she likes my favorite band of all time. I took a deep breath and walked toward her.
"Excuse me. Do you know where...Media Immersion is?" she turned and looked at me. I saw she had emerald green eyes and thick black eyeliner. She smiled at me and grabbed my schedule. She looked it over, then looked back at me. "Well. We have 4 classes together. Follow me." she turned and I started to follow her. "You new here?" she asked. I nodded my head. "Yeah. yes. I'm Casey. Casey Mcdonald." We walked in a room full of computers. An older looking man with light blonde hair smiled at me as I sat down next to the girl. "I'm Ellie. Ellie Nash. And this is Media Immersion." I looked around the room. It seemed like a cool class. I looked back at Ellie. "This is a lot cooler than my old school back in London." Her eyes got big. "You're from London? That's far. I've always wanted to take a road trip down there. My stupid best friend always gets in trouble before we can set a date." I laughed at that. Ms. Nash was pretty cool.

Derek's POV
This school....is amazing. I've never seen so many hot chicks in my life. Especially this brunette girl I saw. But she was with this blonde girl who reminded me of Kendra. I shuddered at the thought. As I opened my locker, I slid my guitar inside. I was about to close it, when a guy about the same height as me walked up and looked at my guitar. He then looked over at me. We kind of dressed the same. We both had a leather jacket, an old rock tee on, and converse.
"Is that a 62 Fender?" he asked me. I was impressed. This guy had to know guitars. I smirked and shook my head, feeling my ego shine. The guy smirked back at me and I felt surprised to me another smirk matching in confidence. The only other person to match me is...Casey. I shook my head and closed my locker. "I'm Craig Manning." he held his hand out. I shook it and cleared my throat. "I'm Derek Venturi. Just moved here from London." he shook his head. "I used to live there until my mom died." I nodded. He pointed at my schedule and I handed it to him. He looked at it and handed it back to me. "We have 3 classes together. We should get to our first period though." I nodded and followed him. He turned to me as we walked.
"My best friend has this class too! Along with our English class." I nodded my head. I wonder if his best friend was as cool as him. We turned the corner and walked into a room full of computers. It had to be the coolest thing i've ever seen. Sir John Sparrow High School had this many computers, but only for teachers. I scanned the room until my eyes fell on a red head with the most amazing green eyes. And let me tell you, she was gorgeous. She was talking with a girl with long brown hair. Craig smiled. "Ellie!" the red haired girl looked up at us, and then her friends turned around. My jaw dropped as I saw those familiar light blue eyes staring at me.

Casey's POV
Me and Ellie were becoming fast friends. She liked alot of the same stuff and music I did. We both wanted to be journalists. We just laughed over something that happened this morning when I heard someone scream Ellie's name. I turned around to see the most gorgeous guy standing there. He had amber eyes and curly brown hair. He had that whole rocker vibe to him. I then looked next to him to see Derek standing there. We held our stare for a second, before Ellie nudged me.
"He's cute." she whispered to me. My face twisted in disgust as we got up. "Eww. Derek's disgusting." He smirked and rolled his eyes. "Nice to see you too princess." Ellie and Craig exchanged looks. "You guys know each other?" I rolled my eyes and tried my best not yell. "Unfortunately. We're step-siblings." They nodded their heads and looked at each other. "Oh! This is my best friend Ellie/Craig." they said at the same time. My heart stopped. This was her best friend? Wow. I thought it was a girl. "What about me?" we all turned around to see a tan, italian boy standing there. Ellie rolled her eyes."And my other best friend, Marco." I smiled at Marco. He was cute too. He shook my hand. "Hi. I'm gay." I let out a surprised cough. He laughed. Well so much for Marco. Maybe i'll just stick to Craig.
The first day of school went by pretty fast. Lunch was cool too. I sat with Casey, Ellie, and Craig. They had to be the coolest people i've met at Degrassi so far. Marco too. The only bad thing was that I had 3 classes with Casey. Media Immersion, English, and Science. But Craig has those classes too. The fourth class I had with Craig was PE. All in all, I made a pretty good friend. Casey seems to have done the same with Ellie. Man, was she gorgeous. Something about those green eyes. They amazed me. I'd never admit this to anyone, especially Casey, but Casey's eyes amazed me more. Something about the shade of blue they were. I was brought out of my thoughts when Casey walked up to me with Ellie. Ellie smiled at me, then looked at Ellie.
"I'll call you." she said. I watched Ellie walk away, then turned to Casey. She was glaring at me. "What?" she rolled her eyes as I closed my locker. "Don't even think about it!" I shrugged at her and smirked as we started walking toward our car. "I have no clue what you're talking about!" I could feel her roll her eyes again, even though I was in front of her. "Don't ask Ellie out. She's my friend." I scoffed at her. "YOU went out with MY friend!" We stopped just in front of the car. "That's different..." I scoffed at her again. "Care to explain princess?" She opened her mouth, but was interupted.
"Hey guys!" I heard Edwin's happy yell from a few feet away. He and Lizzie were walking up to the car. I completely forgot they went to the same school as us now. "This school is awesome! High school is awesome. I love it." Lizzie smacked him. "Calm down Edweirdo." Edwin pouted at her, and they both got in the car. I looked back at Casey, whose was looking at me. I saw those blue eyes sparkling in the sunlight, and I soon got lost in them. I shook my head and tried to focus on getting in the car. Her eyes were still in my mind. I closed the door behind me waiting for Casey to get in. She had her hand on the handle, when Craig suddenly appeared.
"Casey!" she turned around and smiled at Craig. He smiled back at her. I felt a weird tug on my heart. It was something i've never felt before. "Hey. What's up?" he looked down into his pocket and pulled something out. Casey gasped and put her hand on her neck. "My butterfly necklace! I didn't even notice it was gone." He handed it to her and she carefully grabbed it and put it in her bag. "I saw it on the floor in English and thought it looked familiar." She smiled and hugged him, saying a quicks thanks to him. He hugged her back. They pulled apart and he pushed a strand of hair back out of her face. I tightened my grip on the steering wheel. "When I looked up, you were already out of the room with Ellie and Derek." He then leaned over and waved at me. I nodded my head up, finding myself not able to talk at the moment. He smiled at her and said goodbye, walking away.
Casey got in the car with a smile on her face. She turned to me and her smile slightly faded. "What's wrong with you?" She was staring at the steering wheel. I looked down to see she was staring at my knuckles, which were white from clenching it so hard. I let go and felt the blood rushing back to my fingers. "N-nothing." I looked away from her as I started the car. What was wrong with me? What was that weird feeling I got a moment ago?

Ellie's POV
I waited for Craig to re-appear. Marco was suppose to meet both of us. I turned my head to see him walking toward me. He smiled at me.
"Okay. So you want to tell me how much you like Derek?" I gave him a surprised smile. "You like Derek?" I heard Craig from behind me. I turned toward him. He was looking at me. I looked in his eyes and saw something I couldn't quite figure out. "No. He's just....really cute." He was still looking at me. I gave him a look now. "Well what about you? Don't you like Casey?" Craig then looked away from me. "No. She's just...really cute." Marco looked at both of us. "They're two cute people. They should be together. Don't you hate it when two cute people aren't together when they so obviously should be?" We both broke our stare to look at him. He just shrugged and started walking. I gave him one more look before following. I couldn't get that weird look Craig had out of my head. What was that about? _________________
I pulled my guitar out of my locker and slammed it shut. Just then Craig ran up to me. He was holding his guitar too. We decided to practice a song together. We talked about starting a band since Marco and Jimmy decided to do other things. I told him about my D-Rock days and how Casey, thankfully, saved my ass. Then it went into a discussion about Casey. It bothered me a little, but I figured I was just annoyed, right? I shook my head and turned to walk with Craig to lunch. We all decided to eat lunch outside today. I saw Ellie and Casey talking at a table. Me and Craig headed over to hear the start of their new conversation.
"Uh! I have no clue how i'm going to do this project in English." Casey slammed her head down on her crossed arms. I rolled my eyes. Always a drama queen. I sat down and started strumming. "I envy the normal classes. Only the honors classes have to actually DO the project." Ellie answered. Casey lifted her head and gave her a look. "What made Mrs.Kwan the idea that her honor student had to actually learn their subject. I mean the essay was suppose to be about something you wanted to learn, but we have to actually LEARN it." she sighed again. I looked over at Craig. He was playing some of the sheet music. I turned toward him and looked at the paper too. We started to play together. "Well what subject did you pick?" I kept playing my music, but I felt Casey's eyes on me. I was always able to tell if only Casey was staring at me, no one else. "I've always wanted to learn how to play the guitar." I heard half the music stop and looked up to see Craig staring over at the two.
"You wanna learn guitar?" he asked. Casey looked at him and nodded. I saw her eyes sparkle in the sunlight. She looked at him with hope in her eyes. "But...i'm teaching Ellie how to play the drums for her project. And she's teaching me how to draw. But if I wasn't, I would gladly teach you." He finished with a smile at her. I saw her bright eyes dim a little, but she kept a small smile. "It's okay. It can't be that hard to learn from a book, right?" Ellie, Craig, and I gave her a look and she slammed her head down again. Ellie giggled and Craig smirked. Her muffled voice kicked in. "Aww man. I am SO gonna fail at thi-"
"I'll teach you." Casey shot her head up and looked at me. "Excuse me?" I rolled my eyes and sighed. "I said i'll teach you if you want to learn that bad." Casey slowly smiled and walked over to me. "Really?" Her voice went a few octaves higher. I cringed and nodded my head. She smiled even bigger and lunged at me. She got me before I could escape "Oh thank you Derek! You're totally saving my ass on this!" I cringed even more as she hugged me. "Ah. Casey, let go. You know my no hugging rule!" She let go and backed away. I couldn't help but notice the cold feeling I got when she let go. I shook my head. "Oh. Sorry about that." She put her innocent smile on. I shrugged. "Whatever. But you have to teach me something now. It'll be like a trade-off for me being oh so patient to teach you guitar." She glared at me. "Fine. What do you want to learn?" I frowned a little. She looked at me. "What is it that you want to learn that you're scratching your neck? You always scratch your neck when you're nervous." I then realized I was scratching my neck. I stopped and pulled my hand away. I pulled Casey to the side so the others couldn't hear. She then gave me another weird look.
"Okay. So...I kinda, sorta, can't dance. And I was going to ask you to teach me how to dance." I looked down at my feet. I hated asking Casey for help. I felt stupid enough around her, asking for help made it worse. Plus, that's just another thing I would NEVER admit to her. I felt her nudge me and I looked up at her. "Just don't step on my feet." she smirked at me that matching smirk and started to walk back over. I smirked to myself and followed behind her.

Ellie's POV
"So what was that about?" I asked Casey as we walked to PE. She gave me a look. "What was what?" I rolled my eyes and looked at her. "You know. The whole Derek secret thing. What did he want to learn?" She looked around both ways and leaned in to whisper to me. "I.Can't.Tell.You" she then pulled away and smiled at me. I playfully slapped her. "Aww come on! Tell me." She shook her head smiling. I sighed and stopped. Casey stopped and looked at me. "You want to ditch? I don't feel like volleyball today." Casey gave me an uneasy look. "I-I don't know Ellie." I looked at her. Then it dawned on me. "Wait. Casey, have you ever ditched before?" She looked down at her feet and that was all the answer I needed. I walked over to Casey and put my hand on her shoulder. "Casey. Sometimes you just have to break the rules. Haven't you ever wanted to let loose for awhile?" She looked up and nodded at me. Then she looked around before looking back at me. "Let's go."
We drove over to the Dot in my car. At first, Casey seemed really nervous, but after a vanilla milkshake, she was fine. Ahh, the power of a milkshake. "So why so hesitant to leave earlier." Casey put her drink down and swallowed. "I'm always the good girl. The perfect girl. The girl who follows the rules and doesn't have fun. It's been like that since my parents got divorced. When they were getting divorced, I felt I had no control over anything. But my grades...I had control over that. So I started to focus on my grades and school work and perfecting everything I did." I shook my head. I understood where she was coming from. She took another sip of her milkshake. "To be honest, I hate having to be perfect. I want to break rules. To get a few bad grades like most kids. To be lazy and slack off. But i'm just so used to being that perfect girl, and i'm afraid i'll disappoint my mom if I do." I shook my head and took a few sips of my milkshake. I felt it was time Casey knew about me.
"I know how you feel. My dad works for the army, and he's been away for years now. So a week after he left...I started to cut, because my mother is, well was, an alcoholic. For awhile, cutting was the only thing I could control. But then one day, my mom burned down our kitchen. I told her I was staying with my friend, but I was really staying with my boyfriend. She found out and brang me back home. But I showed her my scars. And she realized she was hurting me and went to rehab. Now she's doing way better." Casey shook her head. She didn't flip out or tell me the cutting was wrong. I was surprised. "But you know what? I was glad I told her how I felt. Because after that, I was truly able to move on and heal. I still go to group every Wednesday with Craig, but i'm way better than I was before." Casey smiled at me and I smiled at her. I think i've found my missing girl friend since Ashley's in London. "You know what Casey? I think we all need to let loose and break free. If we let fear get i the way of everything we want to do, we'd just be living in fear." Casey nodded in agreement. "Yeah. You're right. Thanks Ellie."

Casey's POV
I got home around 6:00. I walked through the door into the kitchen. I saw my mom standing there. She was making burgers for dinner. I saw my stack of veggie burgers next to them. She turned and smiled toward me. "Hey honey. Where have you been? Dinner's almost done." I smiled at her. Just then George came from the basement. our new house was set up like our old one. Mom and George had a basement bedroom. The only difference with the new house was that all of our rooms were on the same floor, and the house was bigger.
"I was hanging out with my friend Ellie." Mom and George smiled at me. "Well go clean up. Dinner will be ready in 10 minutes." I smiled again and headed upstairs. I put my stuff in my room and went into the bathroom. I turned the water on. Then Derek came through his door. They had to give me and Derek the only bedrooms with the joined bathroom. "So where were you?" I rolled my eyes. "I was at the Dot with Ellie. We ditched." Derek's eyes widened and he turned toward me. "Did I hear wrong or did I just hear that Casey Mcdonald ditched from school?" I smirked and turned off the water. He shook his head and smirked at me. "You find new ways to surprise me don't you?" I shrugged my shoulders. "I try." I smiled at him, and I saw him roll his eyes playfully. His smirk came up. "Dinner!" I heard George yell. I looked back at Derek. He was still smirking. "Tell me next time you ditch so I can join you." He winked at me and walked out the bathroom. I rolled my eyes and followed him. _________________
