Okay so I'm sure all of us have watched the hug clip about 50 times at this point. ...yeah that sounds about right lol.

And we all looked at the screencaps Joanne posted from the scene at Casey's surprised face.

I have a theory for the reason of that face and wanted to know what you all thought of it.

So we all know Casey has been wanting a hug for a while. And she calls it a 'family feel good moment'. Derek has refused to hug her anytime she has tried (and I run with Miranda's theory on this one - that he refuses to see her as famliy and won't give into that "family" moment).

So this episode comes along now (which is going to wonderful in so many more ways than one) and Derek walks over to and hugs Casey posessively and keeps his arm around her shoulders, and squeezes her around the waist.

And maybe it shocked Casey because she was thinking 'wow Derek finally did it!'

But do you guys also think it could have shocked her because after all this time she wanted a family feel good moment - it didn't feel like she thought it would to her? She was expecting it to feel like when she hugged Edwin, Lizzie, George - but it didn't feel like that at all?

And maybe Derek finally did it because he and Casey had spent soooo much time together all that that - which probably did nothing to help him fight his feelings of love for her. Maybe seeing her step of courage and her adventursome side made him fall in love with her even more. And he felt like it was now or never. (and he possibly might have known it would shock her.)

He did it in front of George and Nora so they could see it and even though he may have been verbalizing something else to them - I'm sure they saw Casey's face too AND who the hell would ever think a hug like that could be brotherly? He continued to have his arm around her shoulder and stand by her side (closely!) because finally he maybe embracing the fact that he likes having her by his side.

I don't know guys I think this hug might have done wonders for both of them! Like giving them a push towards their next step.
Derek finally seems like he's not afraid to let it show to her, or in front of anyone else. So maybe he'll start working on that instead of his occasional freak outs of denial. And Casey? Well...if she really did feel something else other than a 'feel good family moment' with that hug - then she's going to be on the journey that Derek had started in Season 2.

But oh my God...it will be so fantastic to watch!

And I agree about the hug. I didn't think Casey looked disgusted. She just looked like she was surprised what Derek was doing. Not only what he was hugging her, but probably why he was saying as well.

In the spoiler alert, it said that Derek was telling George and Nora that he and Casey were getting along because of the bumping incident and about how they worked together. Sure, he was trying to get out of trouble, but that's also a big step for Derek. Season one he probably would have tried to blame the accident on Casey annoying him or nagging him or something like that.

that's just...whoa!

I never saw that clip before! OMFG!!! okay, I'm guessing that means the hug is at the end of the episode. But I wished it wasn't. I wanted to know what Casey would say to Derek about that hug, like if she was surprised or something.

So, my excitement level raised intensely when I saw this thread and read the first post, then it dropped down extremely when I saw the clip.

If that's the 'hug' for this season.... just, ugh. No. I refuse it.

That hardly qualifies as a hug. (Plus, Derek's done that to her before, it's not anything new.) I want a serious, they're stomach-to-stomach hug. That's the kind of hug I give my mom or dad when I'm in a rush to get to school. Not only that, but Nora and George are in the room. Pffft.

Well, I'm disappointed. Ho hum.

Yeah I definately agree it wasn't the kind of hug I wanted to see.

However - seeing Derek wrap both his arms around her and squeeze her like that? I melted! If anyone would never be caught dead doing that? It would have been Derek. And Casey is the one that got to experience it! I'm used to him just putting one arm around her shoulder and pulling her close. We got both arms here. Which was definately different!

And again her reaction to the hug excites me even more. Cause I have a feeling that despite her acting shocked and not returning it - she liked it!

Steph, I agree with your posts completely! And I noticed that the hug scene could so be manipulated in a Dasey video to look like Derek's telling George and Nora that Casey and him are together. And the look on Casey's face would make that manipulation believable.

The hug wasn't what we were hoping for, but Casey and Derek seem to like where they live right now. In denial.

I think Derek acknowledges it to himself but never to anyone else. And Casey just...ugh...Casey needs to relieze how perfect they are for each other.

But I agree with everything you said Steph.

I think this type of hug was different then the side by hugs Derek has done before. I mean those were just him wrapping one arm around her. This one involved him putting an arm around her and then wrapping his other arm around her waist. Big impact. Now with Derek doing this it may lead to a bigger hug later. Very Happy

^I agree! I mean, Derek seems to love having his arm around her anyway, right? This - like I stated before - seemed like a big step for him, because he really hugged her.

Casey - yeah denial still. But now she's probably plunged herself even further into it. After being in his arms like that - and it shocking her - she'll probably be at war in her mind all through season 4 over whether it felt good, or not.

I admit to being disappointed in the hug. It was nice and all but I was expecting much more from the way people were talking about it. Something along the lines of the The Hug in Stargate: Atlantis Season 2 Premier. THAT was a hug. Granted they had the whole "near death" thing going for them but I was expecting at the very least the two finally shared a hug as in both willingly wrapped their arms around the other for that tender moment Casey's been wanting (only in a non-familial sense) but this was nothing like that. Tender and sweet to be sure but . . . eh. I thought Derek's quick correction about why he was being sensitive to her told more than this.

JMO. I am glad to see everyone else is enjoying it, though, even if I didn't get the same thing out of it. Maybe I'll feel different when I see the whole epi and in English. *shrug*

I had high expectations for this episode but not that high. I wasn't really expecting a kiss. Sorry to say but that's how I felt. I was more excited about the overall aspect of the episode but I still felt really happy when he put his arms around her because it gives the door an opening for a definite future hug! I also liked the fact that he initated it. He could have been convincing about getting along without both arms around her. The overall scheming and plotting together is what really gets me excited about this episode.

I agree as well. I can't seem them acknowledging their feelings now. I guess I'm a bit skeptical though because I don't know if I ever see them acknowledging their feelings for one another on the show.

I wasn't expecting a hug either - even an one sided hug. I think the hug does mean something because it came from Derek, the one who has always protested hugs or any sort of displays of affection with Casey. Maybe this means that the next time she tries to hug him, he won't run the other way?
