Change your LOGO

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

There is now a way to change your default phpBB logo on your forum. In the admin section you will now see a “Change your Logo” link. Just paste in a link to your logo and it will show up on your forum. Currently there is no way to upload your logo to the forums so it must be hosted remotely somewhere like imageshack or something. And sorry but this only works using the subSilver style.

Déjà vu

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

This morning around 6:00am PST we had a hard drive start to fail in our server. Wait a minute hasn’t this already happened? quick check on server uptime… less than a day of uptime?? This sounds all to familiar! Ok ok enough of my bad humor.. Apparently the new drive that was replaced yesterday had 8 bad sectors on it. Here we go again.. Since we were planning on a server move anyways.. Most of the content was already over on the new server. We decided it would be quickest to put the new server into production. Unfortunately the DNS took longer then expected to refresh and some people didn’t start seeing the sight for a whole day! We want to send out a BIG SORRY to every who has had problems accessing the server lately. All the problems should be resolved now.

Hard Drive Failue

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

This morning around 6:00am PST we had a hard drive start to fail in our server. The machine had an uptime of 521 days with no problems at all. The tech team at the data center quickly worked to replace the hard drive and got the machine up and running with a new OS in about an hour and a half. We then began to transfer our backups from our off site backup location to the new server. This went a little slower then predicted due to some un expected network latency. As of 12:00pm pst the machine is fully functional with all of it’s data restored. Please let us know if you expierence any unusual problems. On a side note in the next few days we will be migrating to a faster machine with more ram and hd space. The migration should go pretty smooth with hopefully no more then 5 - 15mins of downtime while we sync databases. Thank you to everyone for helping make Best Free Forums a great success!
